How did we get here?
So it’s 2006, and I’m on a gluten-free snack hunt for my two celiac kids. But the options were about as exciting as a celery stick at an ice cream party. That's when our kitchen went from "just a kitchen" to a Research and Development Lab for snacks. My kids and their friends were more than happy to test the experiments (especially before meals) and had no problem giving me brutally honest feedback. It worked! The kids were happy!
Kitchen Shenanigans to Certified Wizardry
As the word spread, other celiac and gluten-free moms began knocking on the door, so I started to package and distribute the best-received items. Locally at first. Over time, as the demand kept growing, I moved out of the kitchen and to what ultimately became a certified facility in 2014. And we’re still here, baking stuff that makes your taste buds happy. Come One, Come All!
Over time, friends with other allergies lobbied for more options – I did the best I could, trying to make products that are as inclusive as possible. Right now, aside from gluten, our products also have no dairy, tree nuts, peanuts and sesame. We also don’t use fish, and being kosher, no Crustacean shellfish. We also have some products with no eggs and soy.
Preservatives - to be honest, not using them is hard – it means that most products have to live in the freezer. And I can’t tell you how many times our customers miss that and leave them out for too long, with not-so-great results. But since I learnt the health issues that they can bring (Google it!), I couldn’t bring myself to use them.
But, ahh…the feedback. You guys understand! And appreciate it! It really keeps me going.
